Lesson 11: Analysis of Graphs
Specific Expectations:
- Read primary data presented in concrete graphs and pictographs, and describe data using comparative language (e.g., more students choose summer than winter) Mathematics
Lesson Description:
-(15 Minutes) Have the students identify the different features of the graph (i.e., y and x axis, title, categories, numbers etc...). Create a graph as an example on a piece of chart paper. Show the students how to analyze and compare the information in the graphs using sentences.
Example: More students wanted to move to Africville. The least number of students wanted to stay in Toronto. Two more students wanted to live in Africville than in Toronto. Five more students wanted to live in Toronto than in Africville. Show them the success criteria so they know how to complete their
work.
-(20 Minutes) Provide them with their graphs and a page for them to write down their analysis.
-(5 Minutes) Consolidation: Share their analysis with a partner.
