Lesson 13: Introduction to Culminating Task
Specific Expectations:
2.1 Identify some of the elements and the characteristics of a few simple media forms (e.g., colour, music, animation, cover, printed words, pictures) Media
Lesson Description:
-(10 Minutes) Inform the students that they will be creating a poster. The purpose of the poster is to convince others to live in either the community of Africville or the students’ community. The focus question will be the same as the one we used during the Graphing Activity.
-(30 Minutes) “Should your family move to Africville?”
-Show the students a smaller sheet for their rough draft where they can plot their information.
-In the box at the top, create an artistic way of displaying Africville or Toronto depending on whether you feel your family should move to Africville or stay in Toronto.
-The question is displayed below the box with lines underneath. On those lines, have the students state the answer to the question.
-Below this is a box with three bullets. They must come up with three reasons as to why they would like to move to Africville or stay in Toronto.
-There are two smaller squares at the bottom of the page for the students to create two illustrations of important places within either community they have chosen.
-Create success criteria with the students so they know what they have to do to obtain a level 4.
-Allow them time to work on their rough draft.
